I am extremely grateful to god almighty for blessing me with the honour of leading one of the largest professional body of periodontists-Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP). I am thankful to all members of ISP for having reposed their faith and confidence in me and electing me unanimously to this coveted post.
ISP in more than four decades of its existence has strived to promote the art and science of Periodontology among the professionals and awareness about oral and periodontal health among public through its innovative programs. Right from the beginning, the President and office bearers of this great organization have worked hard to take society forward. The result of these efforts from humble beginning, ISP has grown today tremendously as one of the recognized professional body. Now it is my responsibility to live up to standards laid down by my predecessors and work for the progress of this organization.
Friends, I have a vision for the future of ISP and with the help of all of you and newly formed dynamic Executive Committee members and office bearer members, I am sure that I will succeed in giving shape to this vision and implement it successfully.
As time passes we face new challenges, right now the greatest challenge we are facing is that of reduction in the rate of admission in both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in dentistry. Periodontology is no exception. It has become necessary to take concrete action at the graduate level to inculcate zeal and interest in periodontics among the undergraduate students. We have to develop or modify the existing curriculum at the institutional level to create interest among the students.
It has been decided in the first EC meeting at Bangalore to discuss the burning problems and come up with effective solutions.
I hope, with the cooperation of all the teaching faculty it will not be an impossible task. Apart from this I intend to introduce few more programs along with the existing ones for the benefit of students, faculty and the clinicians.
I hope to get in touch with you in next issue of journal with these programs and solution. Viva Periodontology Viva ISP.
