A Professional Enrichment Programme on Recent Advances in Periodontal Microbiology & Clinical Pharmacology in Dentistry was held at Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences, Mukka on 13th December 2014. The Programme was hosted by the Department of Periodontics, in association with Indian Society of Periodontology (Study Group - Dakshina Kannada)

(Prof.) Dr. Sharath K.S, Head, Department of Periodontics & Convenor of this programme welcomed the delegates. The programme was presided by (Prof.) Dr. Manoj Varma, Dean, Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences. The programme was inaugurated by the honourable guest (Prof.) Dr. Biju Thomas, President, Indian Society of Periodontology.

Speaking on the occasion he stressed upon the need of such programmes to constantly improve the knowledge regarding the latest advances in dentistry.

The guest speaker Dr. K Sudhakar Karanth, Former Dean & Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology spoke on Adverse Drug Reaction and its reporting system in India with emphasis of allergic reaction to dental materials and the creation of a robust reporting system for dental materials in India.

The 2nd guest speaker Dr. Darshan B. Mundinamane Reader, Department of Periodontics, R V Dental College, Bangalore spoke on the role of Macrophages in periodontal immunology with emphasis on recent concepts

The programme was attended by the postgraduates and faculties of the dental colleges & Clinicians in and around Mangalore district. Around 85 delegates attended the programme

The talk was followed by an interactive session with the speakers. The programme was appreciated by all the delegates
