“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” -Mark Twain

First things first.

It gives me immense pleasure to inform all of you that our journal – Journal of Indian Society of Periodontology has added another feather in our cap.

The SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) has ranked the Journal of Indian Society of Periodontology in the 10th position amongst all the dentistry journals in Asia! I am very proud to share this news with you and it is a testament to the hard work put in by the authors, reviewers, editorial board members and staff at Wolters-Kluwer Health and last but not the least, the untiring effort of our Editor Dr. Ashish Nichani, for the collective effort in improving our performance.

It has given me a sense of pride for the journal achieving this milestone in a very short time which speaks volumes about the stature of the journal.

An 8 member team lead by the President attended the 7th Biennial Conference of the Malaysian Society of Periodontology at Kuala Lumpur on 28th and 29th May 2016. It was a very nice platform where 5 of our members displayed their posters and the President Dr. Praveen Kudva and the Secretary Dr. Balaji Manohar delivered guest lectures. This opens up newer vistas for the members of the society to be recognised internationally and the society making a distinct mark.

The Training of Teachers program being conducted for the 5th year consecutively has been received very well by the members. The 1st program was conducted at Chennai hosted by Thai Moogambigai Dental College and was attended by 50 life members who were mesmerised by the faculty from Manipal on 17th-19th June 2016. The head office thanks the efforts of Dr. Uma Sudhakar and Dr. Shankar Ram in organising the program. The next one will be on 26th-28th August at Modinagar.

'Integrate' – Restorative driven Implant program on human cadaver I going to be organised from the 22nd-24th July at Banaras Hindu University by Dr. Farhan Durrani. This will be the first time such a program will be organised where one can have a first-hand experience of placing implants on the cadaver. In short it is a not to be missed program for the postgraduate students.

ISP Colloquium is being organised at Indore on 30th-31st July at Indore hosted by Sri Aurobindo College of Dentistry. It is a theme based event and mainly aimed at the 2nd year postgraduates who will have an opportunity to clear the air about the various 'Controversies in Periodontics'. Of course, there are another 2 Colloquiums which will be later at Chandigarh and Chennai.

The newly joined postgraduates will have 'Parichay' at Mahe and Vadodara in the month of August and September respectively. So, the next few months are filled with scientific events and I request the members to utilize these opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills.
