Let me, at the outset, express my heartfelt gratitude to all the esteemed members for elevating me to the highest office of Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP) for the year 2012-2013. Presidency is indeed, the biggest honor, which any association can bestow and I am proud to be installed as the 38 th President of ISP.
This is a great year in my life and career, and also, I deem it a great honor in taking over this highest office from a very senior and renowned academician, Dr. Mohammad Faizuddin, whose distinguished service is a matter of pride to all of us.
The team you have given me is of talented, capable, and enthusiastic leaders, which gives me enough confidence to assure you all that we will do our duty with utmost sincerity. I am very fortunate to have an able secretary, Dr. Balaji Manohar, and a brilliant editor, Dr. Ashish Nichani, whose dedication and commitment in ISP activities are praiseworthy.
To be a successful leader, I anticipate all the assistance and guidance from each and every member of our society. Your creative ideas, positive suggestions, and healthy criticism will definitely improve the activities of our association.
At this point of time, I request all my fellow members to contribute your own bit to our association by enrolling new members, attending scientific programs, conducting periodontal health care activities, and also by maintaining high ethical standards in our profession.
Dedicated and talented members are the strength of any organization. As more and more periodontists are passing out from the numerous dental colleges in our country, I appeal to each and every ISP member to enroll as many periodontists as possible in our professional organization. We must take measures to see that every qualified periodontist, who is on the roll of the Dental Council Register, is an ISP member too. Apart form attracting new members, the productivity of existing members should also be enhanced. Thus, my focus is on both quantity as well as quality. The right people in the right positions with innovative ideas aided by good leadership will take our society to greater heights.
Attending scientific programs is an integral part of keeping our profession afresh and alive. This year, we are planning to organize different kinds of scientific programs and I request all my colleagues to make maximum use of this opportunity to upgrade your knowledge and skill.
In this time-jammed life of ours, let us not forget our commitment to our community. As periodontists, it is our duty to reduce the level of periodontal disease among the population by motivating and educating the public about the importance of oral hygiene. We should dedicate our professional service to the society by conducting as many periodontal health care programs as possible to improve the periodontal health status of the common man.
A fundamental requirement for maintaining the dignity of our profession is the formal code of ethics to which all the members are expected to adhere. Ethics gives credibility and trust, which is necessary for the success of our profession.
Let us all join our hands together to establish ISP as a professional organization of excellence by enhancing the image of its members.
I have in my mind certain projects and programs and I solicit your whole-hearted support and co-operation to achieve our goals. Let us all work together for a successful ISP year.
Wish you all Happy New Year. May the year 2013 be a fulfillment of your dream, peace, love, and prosperity for a great life ahead!
