Wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year!!!.

The Indian Society of Periodontology in the year 2012 had taken a very appropriate decision of one-time membership charges to be procured at a time when a member joins the society as an Associate member. The enrolment of Associate members is still to achieve a 100% mark and we have at the most reached to 60% of the members joining as post graduate students in various colleges as seeking Associate membership of the society. It eventually means that we are left out with 40% of the students joining our speciality without the memberships. We all need to rectify this discrepancy by encouraging the students to join the society at the beginning of their post graduate tenure, so that they can be benefitted as an Associate member and then as a Life member of the society. We all will agree that, with the increasing number of members we as a society will grow stronger and this will yield benefits in the longer run for the society in general and members in particular.

Having taken up the responsibility of the office in 2016, I have realised that there are many members who join the society as Associate members and then fail to complete the documentation for conversion of their membership to Life membership. This has resulted in large number of members still being shown as Associate members in the records of the society in spite of qualifying for the Life membership. We now also need to concentrate on this aspect and inform the members of the documentation process to be done.

Just to simplify the things, an Associate member on completion of his or her post-graduation needs to download the membership form from the ISP website, fill it up and attach a xerox copy of MDS passing certificate and send the documents by speed post to the office address. These documents will be verified and then the ISP Life membership number will be granted to the member. We all need to streamline this process of conversion of membership so that the members are well informed about the activities of the society, can contribute actively in the development of the society and speciality and can access the publications of the society.

ISPecially Yours
