Let me begin by thanking the almighty for blessing me with this monumental opportunity of leading one of the largest professional body of periodontists-Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP). I feel honoured and privileged to be heading this esteemed organization at this juncture. I extend my sincere gratitude to all the past presidents, office bearers and members of ISP for having placed their faith and confidence in me and electing me unanimously to this coveted post.

Let me congratulate Dr Nitin Dani (IPP), Dr Abhay Kolte (Honorary Secretary) and the team of office bearers (2017-18) for completing a successful year and taking ISP to greater heights.

The pioneers in this field have already paved the path and set the stage for a smooth functioning of this society, thereby making my task relatively easier. However, being installed as the new President of ISP, I understand my duties, responsibilities and challenges. It is indeed, my responsibility to live up to standards laid down by my predecessors and work for the progress of this organization. With the blessings and guidance of senior members of ISP and backing of the dynamic and energetic office bearers and EC members, I am confident that we can work towards a splendid year of ISP activities.

In spite of ample evidence being published, asserting the relationship between oral and systemic health, very few measures have been taken to assimilate oral health care into public health systems. Periodontal diseases accounts for a large portion in the vast list of chronic diseases worldwide. Therefore, it is of prime importance to incorporate periodontal care as a part of medical treatment. Another pressing concern is the lack of awareness about this among the general public as well as the medical practitioners. It is indeed, the need of the hour to acknowledge this and work towards educating the public as well as the health care workers about the significance of oral health care through this organization. An effort will be taken from the head office to conduct a national level survey to analyze the periodontal status of the population.

So, let's all join hands and work towards this goal and help it reach the epitome of resounding success.

I thank you all, seek your support and looking forward to an invigorating year ahead.
