Dear Friends,

WISH YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!!!

Our society has completed 43 years of existence and is growing stronger and stronger day by day, not only in terms of numbers but also in terms of the scientific work being done by some of the centres. The scientific literature emanating from various institutes has found place in many of the well-known and reputed international research journals. No longer can our society and its members be considered to be primitive in knowledge in the science of Periodontology and Implantology. In fact, with the amount of clinical material available with us all over the country should enable us to command the much-desired respect and value in the international fora. We have spread our wings in the international scenario by the publication of quality work in scientific journals and now is the appropriate time to have interactions with the international community by having bilateral meets or by way of participating actively in the international meets.

Time and again we as individuals have been participating in the international speciality conferences without being provided substantial time slot being allotted to us and many a time we are required to be satisfied with may be a poster presentation. Contrary to this, we offer our overseas speakers at the National conferences and the PG Conventions not only a few hours in the limited conference time and that too at the main podium with handsome remuneration and all sort of hospitality. This all is done at the cost of our members wanting to present their unique scientific work and also the delegate fees which has to take care of the expenses of these international faculty. Instead of this happening year after year, we need to plan strategies of having reciprocal scientific interactions between speciality organisations and the ISP Head Office will be more than happy to facilitate the same. A of Memorandum of Understanding can be framed, wherein the international speciality organisation will provide two speakers for our Annual Conference with their travelling being taken care of by the parent society and the local hospitality being taken care of by the Organising Committee of the conference and the same will be reciprocated by the ISP at the respective international society Annual Conference.

This way we will be able to place the research work being carried out in our country in front of the international community through the main podium with appropriate time being allotted for the same. This will not only benefit our members of the much desired scientific exposure but will also enhance the image of our society as a whole in the international community. One such step which is going on since the past few years is the regular interaction with the Nepal Society of Periodontology and Implantology. But it is being done on an individual basis and this needs to be in black and white in the form of MOU.

A similar activity we are wanting to start with other international speciality organisations and the Organising Committee of the 43rd National Conference of ISP, Chandigarh is taking efforts in this direction which needs to be appreciated. If this is successful, then we can enlarge the scope of our interactions with others as well. I am very optimistic that in the next two Annual Conferences we will be able to have two such collaborative associations and we will all see to it that it not only materialises but is also successfully implemented.

I firmly believe that we will grow as individuals only if our society progresses and grows in all the spheres.

ISPecially Yours
