“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”
-Henry Ford
The second most important event of the year – the postgraduate convention, this year being the 15th – was organized in Bhubaneshwar from 11th to 13th March 2016. A state where no major ISP activity was conducted hosted the convention at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, ably supported by the Institute of Dental Sciences, Hi Tech Dental College and Hospital at Bhubaneshwar and SCB Dental College and Hospital, Cuttack, where the various preconvention courses were held. It was heartening to see the postgraduates taking interest in attending these courses before the convention to enhance their clinical skill for providing better treatment modality for the patients. The entire organizing team was very enthusiastic to organize the event. The postgraduates had the opportunity to present their work in the form of papers and posters and also heard the wise words of the speakers at the guest lectures.
A few members of the society along with the President and Secretary went to attend the 2nd annual conference of NSPOI at Pokhara, Nepal. Senior members of the society such as Dr. Pradeep Tandon and Dr. C S Saimbi were also present at the conference. A very interesting point that I saw was the conference was theme-based – Interdisciplinary Periodontics. All the guest lectures were based on the theme. So, it was nice to listen to lectures which were on various specialties of dentistry and their association with periodontics. The members presented papers and posters at the event too. We had an opportunity to interact with Dr. Shogo Takashiba from Japan who had come as a guest speaker from the Japanese society of Periodontology on the differences in both the countries on the education and the treatment being provided to the patients.
A professional enrichment program for the students, interns, and the general practitioners was organized during the 1st International Craniofacial and Dental Summit on March 28, 2016 at King George's Medical University, Lucknow. The basic aim of the program was to create awareness among the students and practitioners regarding the importance of periodontics in general practice.
The undergraduate conference is being organized at Belgaum on the 9th and 10th April 2016 at K L E University by the Dental Students Welfare Association of India. The association had approached us for partnering them in the event. The society is the knowledge partner for the event and there will be three lectures at the event by the society that would be delivered.
The other focused program – integrate on implants is being organized at Varanasi in the month of April at the Banaras Hindu University by Dr. Farhan Durrani. For the first time, this hands-on workshop will be on human cadaver.
The Malaysian Society of Periodontology is organizing their conference on 28–29 May 2016 and has extended the invitation for the members of our society to attend the same. As a goodwill gesture, the registration fee for the ISP members has been kept at par with the members of the Malaysian society. The members have to get registered through the head office to avail the benefit.
We as a society are growing and are definitely making an impact, not only on the national but the international scenario as well which is seen by the fact that other international specialty organizations are coming ahead to participate with us in spreading the science of Periodontology. We can definitely make a bigger impact in this part of the world with our commitment to provide better education and patient care which can only be possible with the support and association of all our members. It is rightly said – where there is a will, there is a way. And, it is time, we should show the way.
“The starting point of all achievement is desire.”
-Napoleon Hill
