A Training of Teachers (TOT) workshop was organized by Indian Society of Periodontology and the resource group for the program were from Kasturba Medical college, Manipal which included Dr. Ram Narayan, Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University, Dr. Sudhakar Nayak and Dr. Siraj. The workshop was held from 20 th May 2014 to 22 nd May 2014 at Hotel SUVEE Bangalore. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Anirban Chatterjee, Head of the Department of Periodontology, Oxford Dental College, Bangalore. Teachers from different States of the country including the States of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh numbering around 46 attended the workshop. The high powered teaching faculty who participated in the workshop included 7 Head of the Departments, 2 Principals and 1 Vice Principal. The workshop was organized only for the Life Members of ISP.
The TOT workshop primarily focused on interactive mixing of various ideas pertaining to the teaching methodologies. Further it was followed by expert comments by senior faculty participating members. The participants fully enjoyed the interactive phase and actively participated in the proceedings.
The workshop also included a session on Problem Based Learning (PBL) which was chaired by Dr. Siraj and the participant members included the Post Graduate students of Oxford Dental College, Bangalore. The concept of PBL session was new and all the members found it as an innovative method of teaching.
The workshop received active support from all and every body was unanimous that they enjoyed participating in the workshop. The workshop ended with vote of thanks.
The workshop was financed by Indian Society of Periodontology and sponsored by Hu-Friedy, Colgate, Listerine and Oral -B.
