And what a year of change it has been! The year 2012 saw your journal in a new "Avataar," whether it be a new, sleeker, and appealing cover page incorporating an interesting clinical photograph from the case reports published from within our pages or it be a customized envelop for JISP alone. As you would have noticed, we now print anywhere between 25 and 30 articles running to around 150-170 pages in every issue. This is in keeping with my promise to clear the backlog of articles and ultimately helping our members to publish more, and this has been done keeping the standards and quality of the journal foremost. All our members are now on the database, and efforts are on to trace and update the addresses of members whose copies are returned to us.

I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call from Dr. (Brigadier) J. K. Gupta VSM (Retd.), a veteran periodontist and Past President of our Society, appreciating the efforts put into improving JISP. So, when he offered to opine his thoughts, I immediately grabbed at the opportunity and invited him to write a commentary. His call made me wonder how many of our young members know the glorious history of our Society or for that matter know that Dr. (Mrs.) Tehmi Minoo Sorabji Ginwalla, on whose name we invite an eminent periodontist to deliver an oration in our Annual Conference, was the Founder President of our Society. This prompted me to immediately contact another Past President of our Society, none other than Dr. (Mrs.) Ingrid D'Silva, who as a student of Dr. (Mrs.) Ginwalla was best suited to write a few lines about her. This issue features a fitting tribute to that pioneer and doyenne of our Society.

The purpose of any scientific journal is to increase dialog and encourage the exchange of ideas. Constructive criticism must be taken in stride and it is with this in mind that when I received a letter from Germany asking for certain clarifications about an article published in our pages that I encouraged the authors to reply back in the same spirit. This goes to show that our journal is now reaching different parts of the world and is being read with keen interest.

I am also pleased to inform that with the collaboration of Wolters Kluwer Health & Medknow, JISP is now available on OvidOpenAccess, offering important, peer-reviewed open access content through the OvidSP platform, a leading information search platform used by more than 12,000 institutions globally. With OvidOpenAccess, thousands of researchers, students, and clinicians globally will now have immediate access to our journal content displayed within OvidSP search results, creating exciting opportunities to increase our journal visibility.

Till we meet next…
