I don't know about you, but a topic like Molecular Biology of the Periodontium, while enlisting my interest, is a little too overbearing on my patience and concentration. So I was pleasantly surprised to find a book on the topic, so incisive, interesting and strikingly well written as to sustain my concentration levels for what I will confirm was a reasonable length of time.

Prof. Dr. K. V. Arun, author of Molecular Biology of Periodontium by Jaypee Publishers, First Edition 2010 (ISBN 9788184489132) maintains a very lucid flow with well-chosen illustrations, consistently replete with scholarly information throughout its chapters. Revelations in molecular biology stud the pages and the book presents a solid overall biological paradigm of modern periodontics. It delves on every topic related to the molecular aspects of periodontology and is very up to date, keeping the prospective post graduate student reader in mind.

The 'depth and scope' of the information also covers modern diagnostics in a comprehensive and enlightening way that is easy to read as a text book or a reference source.

To do justice as a true critic, I must say that I missed color illustrations and would have loved to see content organized as flow charts with less complex text. Emphasis on periodontal regeneration, the dynamic role of cementum and some basic immunological aspects is found wanting. The author's approach to the book however is well-integrated and follows a logical sequence and could turn out as an invaluable addition to the specialists' library. Mind you, you still have to discount the numerous misspells. My recommendation tagline: "A challenging but a rewarding read".
